History: When established in 1973, the Buffalo Creek Memorial Library became the first Instant Library in the nation, providing library service to more than 11,000 residents in Logan County. The West Virginia library commission eventually created over 30 of these pre-fabricated libraries across the state. The Buffalo Creek Memorial Library is dedicated to the 125 area residents who lost their lives in the 1972 Buffalo Creek flood.
